Approval and registration answer different questions
The US medicine agency is the FDA: the Food and Drug Administration.

Get the name and the form together
The generic name is the name of the ingredient that does the medicine’s work. The brand name is the name on the company’s product. Ask for both when they apply.
Also ask whether the offer is a tablet, an injection, or a made-to-order preparation. Do not stop at the ingredient name.
In September 2026, semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) has approved tablets as well as approved injections.
As of September 2026, approval of a brand-name medicine does not cover a version mixed to order by a pharmacy.
Ask what the approval covers
Use a direct question: “What is this product approved to treat, and how does that fit the problem we are discussing?”
As of September 2026, BPC-157, ipamorelin and retatrutide have no FDA-approved product for any health problem.
If one of these names appears in an offer, ask: “Is this being offered for my weight, pain, or another concern, and what studies support this exact product?”
The approval record does not give these products an approved treatment purpose, as of September 2026.
