CONNECTICUT CARE · WHAT PEPTIDES MEAN

What does peptide care mean?

Start with the product being discussed. The broad treatment name leaves too much unanswered.

The same word can cover different offers

The US medicine agency is the FDA: the Food and Drug Administration.

An approved medicineAs of September 2026, approved products for treating type 2 diabetes include Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide). Weight-care approvals cover Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) products.Which product is this, and what is it approved to treat?
A compounded medicineCompounding makes or mixes a medicine for a patient’s needs, such as omitting an ingredient that the patient is allergic to.Which part of the medicine is changed for me, and why do I need that change?
A “research use only” labelFDA warnings reviewed in September 2026 concerned products promoted as human treatments with “research use only” labels or labels stating “not for human consumption”. FDA called these unapproved drugs. Is this a product sold for laboratory research, or a medicine prepared for my care?
Start with the offer itself; calling it a “peptide” leaves that question unanswered.

What a peptide actually is

Picture a peptide as a short string of tiny joined chemical parts. Those same parts make up proteins; insulin is a peptide.

Calling something a “peptide” tells you about its chemical make-up. Its safety and whether you can legally use it are separate questions.

As of September 2026, FDA approval covers a particular medicine for a stated use; it does not cover everything called a peptide.

A compounded preparation lacks FDA approval in September 2026.

Bring the question back to your goal

Try writing down the change you hope for before writing down a treatment name. Then ask what assessment would help explain that concern.

Ask about other options too. A conversation can end with a plan to investigate the problem, rather than a prescription.
