CONNECTICUT CARE · THE LICENCE CHECK
Check the person’s licence
Get the person’s full name and professional role. Then compare them with the state record.
Match the person to the state record
| Person assessing you | Connecticut role | Lookup wording |
|---|---|---|
| Doctor | In September 2026, Connecticut’s health department licenses doctors; the Medical Examining Board can act on their licences. | Physician / Surgeon |
| Nurse practitioner | A nurse practitioner is a nurse licensed for advanced care. | Advanced Practice Registered Nurse |
| Physician assistant | In September 2026, a Connecticut physician assistant works under a doctor through a written plan that sets out the care handed over. | Physician Assistant |
A practical way to make the check
The free state eLicense tool lets you check these roles, as well as a pharmacist or pharmacy.
Open Connecticut eLicense- Ask for the full name, role and licence number.
- Choose the matching licence type in the state tool.
- Compare the result with the name and number you were given.
- Check the licence’s current status, along with any penalties or restrictions listed by the state.
If the name does not match, ask the service to explain it. If you cannot tell whether the person may still practise, ask the state office that holds the record.
When a nurse practitioner can work alone
As of September 2026, a Connecticut nurse practitioner may work alone after holding the advanced-care licence for at least three years. They must also have worked with a doctor for at least three years and 2,000 hours. Those hours can be completed during those years.
That rule explains the role. It does not tell you whether a person has met the requirement; ask about their own work arrangement.
What a clean record leaves open
A clean public licence record does not promise good care.
Keep asking about the visit, the proposed medicine and follow-up. The state record leaves those questions for the conversation.
For online treatment while you are in Connecticut, your care professional needs a Connecticut licence, as of September 2026.
